Adrenal GlandsThe Adrenal Glands are a small lima bean shaped glands vital to the production of hormones that assist in alleviating stress and allergic reactions, improving muscle tone and blood sugar and endurance. The constant use of stimulants to raise blood sugar will exhaust the Adrenal Glands causing these glands to become week. This will lead to poor muscle tone, allergies, and stressful condition and low energy level. So essential to life are the adrenals, particularly the cortex, that when they are removed experimentally from an animal it dies within a few days. Similarly destruction of the adrenals by infection or injury causes death. The medulla produces a secretion or hormone called epinephrine, suprarenin, or adrenalin. This substance, supplied to the body through the blood stream, prepares the body physically when the emergencies are encounter: breathing and pulse are speeded, blood pressure is raised, the sugar content of the blood is increases, and muscles are temporarily strengthened. The adrenal cortex secrets many hormones, including cortisone, dihydrocortisone and aldosterone. The cortical hormones are significant in the basic defenses of the body against various infections, poisons, and other invasions or threats. They are also concerned with the regulation of the supply of salt and water and the maintenance of correct blood pressure. Injury or damage to the adrenal cortex, which causes deficiency of its secretions produces a serious condition. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food And Drug Administration. |
